Suppressor Heat Wraps

Suppressor Heat Wraps

We’ve been shooting suppressors for a while now. The reduction in noise makes life a lot easier and shooting more fun. The reduction in recoil is significant. I’d say more than the best muzzle brakes. Some of that could be due to the weight out front along with the radial dispersion of the expanding gas.

Everything to love, nothing to hate. It’s like riding an electric assisted Bicycle. Eliminates the un-fun parts while keeping the way-fun parts intact.

The other day I was shooting some of the 30 PLC rounds through a new Marlin 336. I’d threaded the barrel, shortened and moved the mag tube back to clear, and screwed on the now discontinued SilencerCo Harvester EVO. Being a Lever Gun I shot a magazine tube full downrange pretty quickly. Recoil and noise were noticeably mitigated making the shooting very easy and fun!

I stepped back inside the office and absentmindedly grasped the suppressor to thread it off the barrel without letting it cool down first…. 🥵

Reminded me of the guy visiting the blacksmith shop. He walked in, reached down, picked up a horseshoe that had just come from the forge, and immediately dropped it. “Hot? Asked the blacksmith? Smirking a little” “Nope” said the guy…. Not wanting to admit what he had done. “Just doesn’t take me all day to examine a horseshoe.”

I ran into Richard Mann at SCI in Nashville. While we were visiting, he suggested Skinner Sewing could make some suppressor wraps. They reduce heat shimmer, protect from the hot surfaces and protect the suppressor itself from dings and damage. There are some out there but almost all have straps and buckles and lacings that get a bit cumbersome.

I sat down with my sewing shop lead, and we put this together. Simple, durable, and no extra bulk. Carbon Wool on the inside, 1000 denier Cordura on the outside. Can be used with or without the High temp Silicone coated Fiberglass inner sleeve as a first layer. (Recommended for sustained firing)
(Not recommended for full auto or multiple large capacity magazine dumps.  It may hold up fine to that heat but we cannot guarantee that it will)
