Description

For a great finished look when removing the rear sight, use a dovetail filler blank.

We offer a "Traditional" flat topped dovetail blank reminiscent of the older Winchester/Marlin/Savage rifles from the past century.  This blank will fill the sharp edged "slot" left when the factory rear sight is removed.

A note about dovetail blanks.

To make a blank that would perfectly match the flats or contour of a factory barrel isn't very practical since those dimensions all vary depending on make and model.  These blanks are made slightly oversize and may require fitting, tapping in, etc. a perfectly shaped blank would be difficult due to sharp blank edges that would deform during installation.

Our dovetail blanks are a nominal 3/8" measurement on the dovetail.  About .385" sharp edge to sharp edge.  This is the correct size.

Note from Andy:

"Dovetail blanks require slight fitting to your rifles dovetail.   I do it like this:
First, try the blank in the dovetail, (there is a dot stamped on the BOTTOM) from the right side, dot in first.   If it doesn't push in about 1/4 of the way, lightly "blunt" the sharp edges on the dovetail portion of the blank.  Try it again.  if it doesn't fit 1/3 of the way in with firm thumb pressure, lay the blank flat in the palm of your hand, bottom up.  Then use a flat file to take material off the bottom, keeping it flat as you go, until you can press it in 1/3 - 1/2 way into the slot with firm thumb pressure.  NO POUNDING   Properly fit, you can then gently "tap" it to center with a nylon, wood, or brass dowel.   Hope that helps!"
